Adopting a paralyzed dog or cat isn’t the right choice for every pet owner.

But it could be a deeply fulfilling experience, so don’t be scared off by a dog’s special needs.

Unfortunately, disable dogs are often abandoned by their owners.

Lunita was a beautiful little dog that had a disability, which is why she was abandoned on the streets of Salta, Argentina.

Lunita, a medium sized, disabled, female dog was abandoned on the streets in the early morning hours of May 2014.

Beside her, there was a note with her name, age, and an explanation.

Her former owner didn’t leave her any food or water. The person also stated they couldn’t keep her. There was no other information.

Lunita was lying face down on the sidewalk when she was found; her hind legs still attached to a dilapidated wheelchair.

Luckily, one of the dog-grooming employees saw Lunita and called the rescue organization LUBA Salta.

Soon, two volunteers rushed over to pick up Lunita.

They brought the little dog to a shelter and after that, Lunita was placed in a foster home while her information was posted online in the hopes of finding an adopter for her.

But nothing happened – until a family from the United States showed their interest!

A fundraiser was launched to pay for Lunita’s transfer to the United States.

Unfortunately, things did not go well for Lunita in her new adoptive home. Her new family didn’t know how to take proper care of the disabled dog.

During that time, a mite infested bed led to Lunita developing a very serious staphylococcal infection.

After this new tragedy in her life, Lunita was. Her prognosis wasn’t good, and her breathing was continuing to worsen. taken in by another adoptive family.

Due to the infection, scabies, and urine scalding, Lunita lost all her hair from the waist down, including the tail.

She was also underweight; weighing a mere 35 pounds.

A serious urinary tract infection left her in so much pain that she would scream every time a caretaker wiped her bottom and private area.

It took serious effort and medical attention to treat all the ailments, but she finally recovered.

Along with her new family and good health, Lunita saw the snow for the first time, traveled a lot, made new friends, and even enjoyed birthday parties.

June 15, 2018 was one of the best days of Lunita’s life.

She turned 11 that day and had so much fun with all those people and doggies who came to wish her a happy birthday.

She even got to eat her special, dog-friendly cake.

However, shortly after celebrating her 11th anniversary, she fell sick and had to be admitted to ICU where she once again fought for her life.

Her prognosis wasn’t good, and her breathing was continuing to worsen.

Each time they took Lunita off of oxygen, her tongue would start to turn blue. So her family decided that it was time to let her go.

Lunita passed away surrounded by her loved ones.

“I will never forget her and how much she meant to me,” Lunita’s mom wrote on Facebook.

“She changed my life forever. I loved her so much.”

Lunita’s story came to an end due to old age and struggles of the past.

But one thing’s clear, the last chapter of her life was indeed a happy one. Lunita is an amazing example of perseverance.
