Seven pet dogs were stolen from a village located in northeastern China. According to local media outlets, the dogs were taken by thieves working for a dog meat shop and hence were heading to certain death.

According to the story, the seven dogs, led by a Corgi, escaped a moving truck. The leader of the pack, an adorable Corgi, however, meant business. He made sure the gang was okay, and witnesses saw him stop ever so often to check on the group and make sure everyone was alright and keeping up.

A German shepherd in the group who had been injured was placed in the middle, with the other dogs surrounding him to keep him safe. Other breeds in the group included Golden Retrievers, Labradors, and a Pekingese.

Passersby witnessed the group of doggies as they made their way home, which was a long 17km away. They navigated busy roads and open fields before they were able to reunite with their families just a couple of days later.

The clips of the dogs went viral in China and beyond early last week. People who spotted the group navigating a highway in their particular formation were intrigued. People online also noted that the group seemed incredibly coordinated.

More footage later emerged showing the dogs crossing fields and still sticking together. The dogs reportedly ignored attempts from people trying to help them. Local rescuers later confirmed that the dogs had been friends from earlier, coming from the same village where they were known to roam together and share a strong bond. Volunteers were tracking their movements, and the group went in the same direction and finally reunited with their families on March 19.

Stealing dogs is treated as a criminal offence in China; the penalty for the crime can range anywhere from a fine to prison time, depending on the value of the dog stolen.

The story, a gleaming beacon of hope and good in the world, has caused a lot of reactions online with people urging movie giants Disney, Pixar, and Netflix to make a film on the incident.

One user even generated a mock-up poster for the film.

“i need a disney movie of those dogs asap” another user wrote. “Greatest story I have read today. This needs to become a Disney movie ASAP!” one X user enthused.

This is such a heartwarming story! Share this with others to make them smile at the level of friendship and bravery these seven dogs displayed.
