Sue, named ‘UK’s most unwanted dog’ after four years in shelter, is still looking for a forever home

There are so many animals in shelters who want nothing more than to go to a good home. But sadly, it takes some longer than others to get adopted. Some animals wait months or even years in shelters.

Like one poor dog, who has waited four whole years to find a forever home, watching hundreds of other pets get adopted out. Now, her friends at the shelter are trying harder than ever to get this lonely dog a home.

Sue has spent her whole life in the shelter. The lurcher dog, believed to be about four-years-old, was rescued as a puppy by the RSPCA in Bath, England in August 2017.

She was taken to the RSPCA’s Cats and Dogs Home — and she’s been there ever since. For four years, she has been waiting to get adopted, but has been passed over every time.

“We’re at a loss as to why poor Sue hasn’t been rehomed,” Rachel Jones, chief executive of the home, told The Mirror.

While Sue has been well-cared for and loved by the staff, the four years have been filled with heartbreak. She’s watched hundreds of her fellow rescue dogs get adopted out: the shelter says 941 dogs have been adopted during Sue’s time there.

And in 2018, she was briefly adopted, only to be returned back to the shelter. Sue’s sad story has led her to be dubbed “UK’s most unwanted dog.”

They aren’t quite sure why Sue has never found a home. Her energetic, “overexcited” personality might be turning people away, and it could also be her appearance: “Brindle dogs take around 36% longer to rehome than other colours,” Rachel Jones said.

Still, the shelter still has hope that there might be a perfect home for Sue out there somewhere. They say she is a very friendly, loving dog who knows basic commands like sit and stay, and can benefit from further training.

“We all absolutely adore her and love taking her out for long walks and giving her lots of attention but we’re desperate to find her her own home,” Rachel said.

After spending her whole life in the shelter and facing so much rejection, Sue would be better off in a home that can give her lots of extra love and attention. After four years, she deserves it — and the RSPCA is hoping that she finds a forever home soon.

If you are interested in adopting Sue, you can find more information on her adoption page, or contact the shelter at [email protected].

Four years is far too long for any pet to wait for a home. We really hope this sweet dog finally gets adopted soon.
