Woman saves scorched and screaming Koala with the shirt from her own back

As if the koala bear species didn’t already have enough to worry about, its existence is being further threatened by the devastating bushfires currently tearing through Australia’s east coast.

Thus far, the fires have claimed more than 2.5 million acres of land, with firefighters struggling to beat back the various blazes affecting the area.

Yet heroes are often born in such dire times, and such has been prove yet again. One incredible act of bravery is going viral online after a woman from New South Wales, known only as Toni, saved a koala trying to cross the road amongst the flames.

Toni’s heroic actions, which included swooping in to rescue the koala, wrapping it in the shirt from her back and pouring water over it, were caught on camera.

It should come as no surprise footage from the incident is quickly going viral online, with Toni being hailed a true animal hero.

She later said she was planning to take the koala to the nearby Port Macquarie Koala Hospital, a facility that has been accepting koalas injured or affected by the fires.

So far the blazes have burned more than 2.5 million acres of Australia’s east coast, sorely affecting the wildlife.

It’s feared as many as 350 koala bears have already lost their lives, with search and rescue teams working around the clock to try and limit the damage.

A GoFundMe Page has been set up to help in the battle, but only time will tell just how many lives have been lost.

I for one think this woman is a hero. Not only did she rush to save the Koala, but also gave it the shirt from her back in a bid to keep it safe from the flames.
