Polar bear shows off hunting skills to the delight of San Diego Zoo visitors

When we think about animals in zoos, we tend to believe they have lost all capability of hunting for food themselves. This is partially true because a large number of animals rely on zookeepers to feed them.

But there’s at least one polar bear at the San Diego Zoo that is still able to hunt down a meal all by itself.

Amy McBride was visiting the zoo when she captured a teachable moment on camera.

“Folks, I, uh, don’t really know what to say,” someone can be heard saying.

Amy, who was visiting the zoo with her 3-year-old daughter, caught the second a polar bear snuck up on an unsuspecting duck and grabbed it with its mouth.

Everyone who happened to be at the polar bear exhibit were treated to an up-close lesson on the circle of life.

While most expressed some shocked and joy over the surprise feeding, Amy’s daughter was not pleased.

“He ate the ducky!” she said.
