19-year-old hunts kangaroo – ends up being hunted himself

Nineteen-year-old Joshua Hayden was out hunting in Kellerberrin, Australia when he himself was attacked.

He leaned out of his car to shoot two kangaroos when a third suddenly jumped at him and headbutted him in the face.

“I woke up and my brother was trying to tell me what happened,” Joshua told ABC News.

Joshua Hayden was hunting with his brother near the town of Kellerberrin in Australia last week.

He saw three kangaroos and saw his chance, he thought.

But suddenly one of them disappeared, and the 19-year-old decided to shoot the other two. He leaned out of his car and aimed his gun — when the third kangaroo suddenly came back.

“It actually collided with the side of the car and smashed the front window,” he told ABC News. “Then it bounced back onto me and headbutted me straight in the jaw.”

Lost consciousness

Joshua says that he was unconscious for 30 seconds before his brother was able to wake him up.

Joshua had difficulty believing that it was a kangaroo that had hurt him so badly and at first thought it was his brother who hit him.

Needs surgery

Joshua was driven to the hospital, but was told that his face was so swollen he had to wait 10 days before they could operate on him.

Even though Joshua and his brother hunt together regularly, they have never experience anything like that before.

“Out of all the times we have been out bush I have never heard of this before. The kangaroos are going crazy these days. As soon as they see a car they hop right up to it and give it right back.”
