Yorkie surrendered by owners who wanted him put down now looking for a home for Christmas

It’s Christmas time, and most people are looking forward to being with their families for the holidays. But it’s important to remember those who don’t have homes to go to — including shelter dogs.

These animals would love nothing more than to finally find a loving, cozy home by Christmas, but sadly many will spend the holidays in kennels.

It’s an especially sad situation for one little dog, who was recently surrendered by his family who wanted him put to sleep. But now, this heartbroken Yorkie is dreaming of a home for the holidays.

Theo is a four-year-old Yorkshire Terrier who was left at the vet by his family, who asked for him to be euthanized.

Thankfully, his life was spared, and instead of being put down he was brought to Friends of Rescue, in Northern Ireland. He is now in foster care, and is looking for a new home.

It’s not clear why the family wanted him euthanized: Theo seems to be a happy and relatively healthy dog. The shelter wrote that Theo is “showing signs of a candidate for trachea issues,” but he doesn’t require any treatment and that “all is well.” His adoption page lists no known health issues.

Theo’s foster mom described him as a playful and somewhat hyper dog, but added that “if he gets 2 good walks and play time he can settle for periods, he’s also very good at night time.”

She wrote that Theo currently has a hard time settling in alone, and he’s “almost house trained” but still requires a little work. Theo would be best in a home with someone active who can give him the attention he needs.

“He is just a lovely wee man, good natured and fun, needs someone active who can give him lots of time,” his foster mom wrote.

Theo has been in the shelter since October, and according to The Mirror the shelter is hoping to find him a home by Christmas.

Theo is located in Derry, Northern Ireland. If you are interested in giving this sweet dog the home he deserves, you can reach out through his pet adoption website.
