Generally when someone comes to another person’s aid they don’t call for them to be fired, but after Rochelle Silva was attacked by six pit bulls, the Massachusetts woman has some harsh words for the police officer who assisted her.
“I don’t want him to be working as a police officer who’s supposed to protect and serve,” Silva told WLNE. “I want him fired.”
Rochelle Silva was walking her daughter’s dog, Ace, one evening when suddenly a pit bull escaped from a home and ran towards the them. Silva attempted to run across the street to put Ace on the other side of a fence to protect the pooch, but she was unable.
According to the police when the owner of the pit bull attempted to retrieve the dog, five more pit bulls escaped and they all ran towards Silva.
“I could feel the chunks coming out of my body,” she said. “I thought I was going to die.”
An officer on patrol happened to be nearby and witnessed the attack. A police report stated that the officer was unable to safely discharge his weapon in order to rescue Silva, so he went back to his cruiser and turned on the car’s siren and air horn.
The noise distracted the dogs long enough for the officer and a bystander to bring Silva into the officer’s cruiser.
But that’s not how Silva remembers the horrific event.
“He [the bystander] told the cop to unlock the door so he could get me in the car and he put me in the car.”
Silva, who was transported to a hospital where she received 100 stitches and skin grafts, and her daughter, Arianna, believe the officer could have done more to stop the attack.
“You have a whole waistband full of weapons,” Arianna said. “You could’ve shot the dogs individually, you could have tased them, you could’ve done anything other than just get back in your car and lock the doors.”
Although Silva could have to endure weeks of rehabilitation she is expected to survive. Unfortunately, Ace did not survive the attack. The bystander who helped Silva also sustained an injury.
What happened to Rochelle Silva is absolutely terrible. Do you agree with her? Should the officer have done more?
