‘Somehow…they knew’ : Dogs give older dog brother kisses just before he’s put down

Dogs are very sensitive to their surroundings and form loyal and close bonds with their humans.

But those dogs that grow up around other canines form a different kind of bond; friendships that become intuitive and connections that can never be broken.

Three Belgian Malinois dogs enjoyed a long and happy life together, playing, eating and sleeping side by side.

Sadly the oldest of the trio 11-year-old Sef had to be put down and his owner said he believed the other two dogs knew what was about to happen.

The owner posted his heartbreaking story on Reddit.

“You know you have a good boy when your vet doesn’t normally do at-home euthanasia, but she volunteers to come out and do it for Sef,” said the user in his post.

“And that’s what happened this morning. Somehow Rhonin and Jaina both knew, because they kept coming over and giving Sef kisses this morning while we waited for the vet.”

Their owner posted the heartbreaking picture of the dogs saying their final goodbyes to their brother, which immediately went viral.

The Reddit user added: “Sef was able to go peacefully at home, while my wife and I stroked his fur and told him how much we loved him and how much we were going to miss him.

“I love you, Sef. You were the best boy I could have ever asked for. I would have carried you forever, had I been able to, but it wasn’t fair for you.”

Hundreds of users commented on the heartbreaking post saying how moved they were.

“I am not crying in my cubicle at work right now,” one commenter said.

While another said: “I’m not crying, I’m sobbing. My dog was trained as a service dog and now she’s sitting on me because she’s trained to ground during panic attacks.”

The grieving owner followed up on his original post thanking everyone for their kind words saying they were due to cremate their sweet hound so they could put his ashes on the mantle next to his first dog.

“You were with me from age 23 all the way through 34. Those were some of the most formative years of my life. Girlfriends, a wife, 2 houses, 3 cars, 2 cats, 4 different jobs, four different dogs and countless foster dogs,” he wrote.

“All of them with you being rock solid and by my side. Thanks for going on that 11 year journey with me. I loved every minute of it. I hope you had a wonderful time.

“Thanks for the kind words everyone. We said our goodbyes and he’s getting cremated so we can put his ashes on the mantle next to our first dog. He was the best boy I could have ever asked for.

“Love you buddy. I hope you had a wonderful time.”

Sef’s owners are hoping that those who were touched by this sad story will donate in his honor to the American Belgian Malinois Rescue, where they got him from.

Rest in peace sweet Sef, I can’t imagine how much your family is missing you. Please share.
