Puppy who lost leg after being stepped on by horse learning to walk again and looking for a home

A puppy who was left permanently disabled by an accident is recovering thanks to some kind humans, adjusting to life on three legs — and now, this precious pup is looking for a home.

A five-and-a-half-week-old border collie puppy named Happy is now in the care of From Heaven to Earth Rescue, in New Philadelphia, Ohio, after recovering from an accident that left him with just three legs.

According to a post from the rescue, Happy was stepped on by a horse last month, breaking his leg. Vets couldn’t repair the leg, so it had to be amputated.

While it’s unfortunate, Happy hasn’t let it get him down. The rescue shared a video, posted two days after the pup’s surgery, showing him adjusting to his missing leg.

The rescue wrote that he’s “starting to get the hang of three feet.”

Happy is now getting a new start after recovering from the accident — and will soon be put up for adoption, according to From Heaven to Earth.

While it can sometimes be hard for dogs with special needs to get adopted, we’re sure this beautiful, optimistic pup will have no trouble finding a forever home who will love him just the way he is.

When he’s made available for adoption, you can find more information on the rescue’s puppy adoption site.

What a sweet little dog. We’re sorry he lost his leg in the accident, but we’re glad to see he’s adjusting well to life on three legs and will hopefully soon find a perfect new home.
