Dog is rescued after 5 years in chains: Now watch his reaction when he sees ocean for first time!

Dogs need to move, run around, smell things and play with other dogs.

Of course it’s sometimes good to put them on a leash for their own safety, but dogs are happiest when they’re allowed to run free.

Herschel is a lovely German shepherd who unfortunately hasn’t always had a good life. For five years he was mostly chained to a post and received neither the love nor the care he deserved.

But then he was adopted, not just once, but twice, because sometimes it takes more than one try to place a dog in the perfect forever home.

Herschel was so overjoyed and energetic when he was first adopted that he was simply too much for his new family, so they decided to return him to the shelter.

The future didn’t look bright for Herschel and many people thought he’d live the rest of his life without a family who loved him.

Fortunately, someone else had other plans for Herschel. And the dog would soon have another chance to show the world what a fantastic dog he is. Thanks to Rocky Kanaka and his show, “Dog’s Day Out,” Herschel was able to experience the best day of his life.

Here’s what Rocky said:

”He got to see snow for the first time, and he got to give free teddy bear hugs to be shown love. And that day got him enough awareness that now we’re taking a road trip from Los Angeles to deliver him to his new furever family that lives in Washington state.”

Of course, no day is complete without a trip to the beach. When you see Herschel’s reaction when he first sees the ocean, it really warms the heart. And it also makes me understand why his new adoptive family wanted him.

Herschel was excited and confused at the same time. He’d never seen anything like it.

Rocky took it slow at first because he didn’t know how Herschel would react, but after a while, the dog got the chance to feel the waves crash over his furry body. What joy!

“He was biting the waves, and jumping in and out like a dolphin. I don’t know if he’s dolphin or dinosaur, or Chewbacca or teddy bear, but I do know this: it brings happy tears to my eyes knowing that he’ll now be loved forever.”

Talk about changing a life. All dogs deserve the kind of life that Herschel now lives.
