Dog who was hit by car and shot 70 times with shotgun pellets finds a loving forever home

Some dogs go through so much heartbreak and pain in their lives. And through it all, all they really want is a loving home to call their own.

Now, one pup’s long suffering is finally over, finally getting adopted after being found in shocking condition.

In November, an 8-month old dog arrived at the San Antonion Humane Society. After an examination, vets discovered that not only had she been hit by a car, she was also shot many times with a shotgun.

The vets found 70 shotgun pellets in her body.

The dog was named Tammi. Despite her terrible condition, the team made sure she would finally get the help she desperately needed.

According to San Antonio Humane Society, Tammi underwent specialized surgery to repair a pelvic fracture and restore her mobility.

After her surgeries, Tammi had a month of rest and recovery, and then she was happier and stronger than ever.

It was time to find this abused pup a forever home.

“Tammi needs a fun-loving and caring home,” SAHS Associate Veterinarian Dr. Traci Gilbert said.

“Considering everything she went through, she is such a sweet girl. She is young and a bit shy, but I am sure she would love an active family once she gets her strength back.”

Luckily, it didn’t take long for the public to fall in love with Tammi, inspired by her incredible survival and recovery.

And soon, she finally found a loving home to call her own.

“When we saw Tammi, we were instantly drawn to her and after spending time with her, we knew she was the dog we wanted,” said Tammi’s new mom, according to San Antonio Animal Society.

“She’s been so great. She’s adjusted so well. She was shy at the shelter, but as soon as she walked through our doors, she was different. She was really excited, and I think she’s enjoying us as much as we’ve needed her. We’re really glad to have her.”

The Humane Society was overjoyed that Tammi was able to go to a home where she can finally live in peace and happiness.

And the timing of it made everything even better.

“We’re just so happy she has found a loving family in time for the holidays!” the humane society said in a statement to KSAT.

While Tammi’s story is extraordinary, it’s a reminder of the hard work vets and shelter workers do every day to ensure that the most vulnerable animals get the help they need.

“Tammi is another great example of our SAHS team and medical staff coming together to provide the best care and love to our most vulnerable pets!” San Antonio Humane Society wrote on Facebook. “We appreciate all their hard work and dedication to ensure all of our pets get a second chance!”

We’re so happy Tammi found a forever home just in time for the holidays! She definitely deserves one after all she’s been through!

Thank you to the vets who saved her! Share this inspiring story!
