School mascot tired of posing for pictures steals college graduate’s diploma

We’ve all heard the classic, “The dog ate my homework,” excuse before. Hey, maybe you’ve even used it!

But what about, the dog ate my diploma?

While it seems just as farfetched as a dog eating math homework, I can assure you that it did happen and there’s video proof.

On June 14, Cristina Ruiz graduated from University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez in Puerto Rico. After the ceremony Cristina posed for pictures with family, friends, and the school’s mascot, Tarzán, an English Bulldog.

Posing with the 10-foot sculpture of Tarzán is tradition for graduates, but Cristina wanted to get a picture with the real deal.

Video shows the recent graduate crouching down next to Tarzán and just as they’re about to have their picture taken, the bulldog gets an idea.

He went for Cristina’s diploma and would not let go. In fact, Cristina was the one who let go first.

“We were all in shock and super surprised,” Enrique, Ruiz’s brother, told The Dodo. “It was unexpected.”

Unfortunately, Cristina’s diploma did not make it out unscathed.

“Everybody has been saying that my sister has a unique diploma now, ‘signed’ by the university’s mascot,” Enrique said. “My mom was super excited for her graduation, so the bitten diploma was the cherry on the top.”

Hopefully someone got Tarzán his own diploma because he wasn’t able to keep his paws off the graduates’.

After all these years Tarzán probably got tired of seeing everyone else but him get rewarded for completing school.

I hope someone told Tarzán that he is the best school mascot there ever was and he doesn’t need a diploma to prove that, BUT it would be nice if he had one.
