Dog seized from abusive household gets adopted by officer who rescued her

It’s unbelievable that anyone would abuse a dog, and it’s heartbreaking to think of all the dogs who suffered from abusive situations.

But thankfully, there are also people willing to step up and give these dogs the love they deserve. That was the case recently, when one dog was rescued from her abusive home — and ended up adopted by the responding police officer.

On May 5, deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of animal abuse in Aloha, according to a release from the department.

The caller had taken in a female mixed breed dog named Dice from her owner, and the poor dog had visible signs of abuse, including burnt whiskers and wounds on her face, head and neck.

The caller relinquished Dice to the deputies, who took her to the vet for immediate medical care.

The owner, identified as 41-year-old Brandon Ash of Beaverton, was arrested on charges of animal abuse in the first degree, animal neglect in the first degree and animal neglect in the second degree.

While it’s heartbreaking to think of the abuse poor Dice went through in her old home, she quickly found a new family — in one of the responding officers.

According to the release, Deputy Armstrong “fell in love with Dice” and soon brought up the idea of adopting her. She went through the proper channels and soon became the dog’s official new owner.

Armstrong renamed the dog Trilly, short for trillium, and the dog has reportedly settled in well with her new owner.

“Trilly has already become part of the Armstrong family and is thriving in her new home,” the media release states. “Deputy Armstrong would like to thank the Tanasbourne Veterinary Emergency and the Bonnie L. Hays Animal Shelter for their help in facilitating Trilly’s new life.”

It’s heartbreaking that Dice/Trilly was abused by her previous owner, but we’re glad she found a great new home with the officer who saved her!
