Grumpy Nativity scene cat sits in manger and spreads Christmas joy to passerby

Christmas is coming up, and people everywhere have put up their decorations. For many people nothing sums up the spirit of the holiday like a Nativity scene—drive around and you can see figures of Mary, Joseph and the Three Wise Men on many people’s lawns.

But one woman saw something hilariously unexpected in one Nativity scene, a sight that could be called a real Christmas miracle.

In December 2017, Brooke Goldman, a photographer in New York City, woke up to walk her boyfriend to the train, but just wanted to go back to bed.

“I was pretty out of it,” she told The Dodo. “I was trying to get home as fast as possible to go back to sleep and wasn’t ready for the day at all.”

But that unwanted walk turned out to be fate, because she caught a sight that made it a day to remember.

“I found myself at 28th Avenue, looking tediously at everyone’s yards,” she told Love What Matters. “I noticed the nativity scene first, and then noticed the little guy sitting in the manger.”

The plastic Nativity scene had become a nice resting spot for one grumpy cat:

It was just a perfect moment: this cat happened to find its way into the Nativity scene and placed himself right down where Baby Jesus sleeps, making it look like Mary and Joseph are prayerfully watching over him.

On top of that, the cat had a hilariously grumpy look the whole time.

“It caught me off guard in the best of ways, and I stopped to photograph him,” Brooke said. “The best part was his grumpiness—he was staring at me intently the whole time while photographing him, and I was a little nervous!”

The pics she caught were priceless: “I was laughing pretty loudly the whole time, and just appreciating the entire moment.”

Not only that, the laugh helped brighten up an off day for Brooke.

“I guess you can definitely say he brought me joy while I was walking home. It was mood-lifting, most definitely,” she told The Dodo. “Laughing that hard that early in the morning makes the rest of the day much more positive.”

We hope these photos gave you a laugh and brightened your day, too! Share this story to spread Christmas cheer!
