Man smashes seagull against wall after it tried to steal food out of his hands

If you’ve ever stepped outside with food in your hands then you know that occasionally birds will swoop down and attempt to steal your food. Seagulls are known for doing this, sometimes they’ll even walk into a store and take a bag of chips off the shelf.

In July 2018, John Llewellyn Jones was on a trip to Weston-Super-Mare in England, when a seagull pestered him for the food he held in his hands.

Jones was not pleased and retaliated against the bird.

According to reports, a seagull knocked a bag of chips out of Jones’ hands. Jones was able to quickly grab the bird by its leg and then hit it against a wall, leaving it with “its eyes twitching.”

Onlookers were appalled.

Rachael Beer witnessed the horrific attack and shared the photos she took of the incident with the RSPCA.

“I saw a seagull squawking and then taking a chip from a man’s plate. Suddenly he then grabbed it by its feet and swung it against the wall,” she said.

“The seagull wasn’t dead at first,’ she said. ‘We could see its eyes twitching. Thankfully a passerby came and took it to the vet. Seagulls are a problem, but to kill one like that is just wrong.”

A passerby took the injured seagull to a vet.

Those who witnessed Jones violently smash the seagull, which was a protected species in the UK, questioned his motive.

He shrugged his shoulders and left the scene.

Jones was found guilty of violating the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.

Jones was ordered to pay a $950 fine in addition to a $107 victim surcharge. He was also sentenced to a 12-week curfew.

“This was an unthinkable and despicable way to treat an animal,” RSPCA inspector Simon Evans said. “This was deliberate cruelty, borne from the fact that this man cared more for his chips than what his actions did to the poor gull. Simply, the man showed blatant disregard for an animal because he was annoyed about his chips.”

Even though seagulls can be a nuisance, this is NOT how you go about dealing with them.
