Officer saves freezing dog trapped in muddy canal

It’s a police officer’s duty to look after everyone in their community, whether they be human or animal. We’ve seen many stories of officers going above and beyond to save people’s pets.

That was the case recently, after one officer got a dog out of a very sticky situation, helping to reunite him with his owner.

According to a Facebook post, the Palm Bay Police Department, in Florida, got a call about a dog who had gotten stuck in mud near a canal.

The dog had been trying to get out but was unable to free himself.

Thankfully, K9 Officer Carrol arrived on the scene and came to the dog’s rescue.

Video shared by the department shows the dog, scared and barking for help, standing helplessly with mud up to his face.

Officer Carrol goes in and carefully gets hold of the dog. It seems to take some effort — the dog seems to have been stuck good — but he is able to lift him out of the mud and carry him to safety.

Watch the video below:

It’s safe to say the dog would have never been able to get out on his own. And given how cold the water was, it could’ve been very bad if he wasn’t saved in time.

“The water was cold, and it appeared the dog had been there for some time, worn out and tired,” the department wrote on Facebook.

While the department originally reported that the dog had no tags or collars and asked for help identifying his owners, an update says he is now “home safe with his owner.”

We’re so glad this dog is safe, dry and back home with his owner! Thank you to Officer Carrol for saving this beautiful dog from the mud!
