Store security guard uses umbrella to shelter dog caught in the rain

A security guard at a store in the U.K. took pity on a dog left tied outside in the rain and offered him some shelter.

Ethan Dearman, who works at British supermarket Morrisons spotted the Golden Retriever who had been tied to a pole outside while his owner went shopping.

As the rain came down Ethan pulled out his umbrella and shared it with the wet pooch.

His selfless act was caught on camera and posted online with the caption: “Shout out to this @Morrisons security man keeping this good boy dry. He said ‘well you never know how dogs feel about the rain’.”

The post went viral attracting more than 140,000 reactions from people praising the security guard for his kind actions.

The security guard was identified as Ethan Dearman and tagged in the post to which he replied: “I didn’t think I’d go viral on twitter like this. I knew I was making people smile but this is something else entirely, lol.”

Many asked why the dog was tied up in the rain in the first place to which Ethan explained: “It wasn’t raining when he was tied there and since I can’t move another’s dog I thought using an umbrella would be a good compromise.”

‘Wonderful employee’

Thousands praised the sweet gesture with one person writing: “What a lovely, thoughtful thing to see amongst all the depressing pictures from the news. @Morrisons are lucky to have you as this picture is an amazing advert for them. I hope they give you a bonus because you deserve one.”

Another wrote: “Thank you for being so kind, it feels in short supply at the moment. I hope that the dog’s owner appreciated your lovely efforts and that @Morrisons recognises that they have a wonderful employee. I’m sure if they could the dog would have thanked you.”

‘Keep our customers and dogs dry’

Morrisons retweeted the picture on to their own social media and the company said: “It’s going to be a wet week so we’ve issued nine thousand Morrisons umbrellas to keep our customers – and their dogs – dry. It’s good to see that it is already happening in our Giffnock store.”
