Elephant with old poacher’s bullet lodged in his head asks humans for help

Few will argue that elephants aren’t amongst the most majestic, truly unique creatures out there.

These usually gentle giants are a true credit to the wild, which is why it’s beyond shocking that so many of them die every year as a result of illegal poaching.

Unfortunately, the ivory trade remains alive and well, despite continued efforts to shut it down, meaning that elephants in the wild are rarely safe.

In one especially tragic video, veterinarians in Zimbabwe encountered an African elephant that had been shot in the head.

Elephants are known for their intelligence and skills when it comes to problem-solving, so perhaps it should come as no surprise that this particular elephant knew to go to humans for help, despite it being a wretched human who had shot him.

It wasn’t until he got closer, however, that the vets realized what had happened. A poacher’s bullet was lodged in his skull, causing an infected wound.

The men jumped into action, sedating the elephant with a tranquilizer and taking X-rays of his head to see the full extent of the damage.

Knowing that time was very much of the essence, the doctors operated then and there, dislodging the bullet and removing it from where it was buried in the elephant’s skull.

They then waited for the male โ€“ who they named Pretty Boy โ€“ to regain consciousness. Eventually he did and, though groggy, he was able to walk away healthy once more.

The incredible event, which took place four years ago, was picked up by Inside Edition and uploaded to their YouTube account, where it has since garnered more than 13.7 million views.

I don’t know about you, but I for one think it’s truly awe-inspiring that this elephant went to humans for help and they were able to save his life.
