Funko sells toy honoring Australian firefighters to benefit animals hurt by bushfires

If you’re a pop culture nerd you’re very familiar with Funko Pop! toys, those beady-eyed vinyl figures that have become a favorite for collectors.

You can get a Funko of pretty much anything: the trend started as mostly pop culture characters but has expanded to everything from sports stars to historical figures.

But for people who are saddened by the bushfires in Australia and want to help out with the recovery, there’s a very special figure you’ll want to add to your collection.

Funko will be releasing a limited-edition “Bushfire Heroes” figure of an Australian firefighter with a koala. All proceeds will go towards the RSPCA National Bushfire Appeal, and be used to help injured and displaced animals.

The bushfires have had a catastrophic effect on Australia’s wildlife. Hundreds of millions of animals have been killed, some even estimate the number as over a billion.

And it’s taken a massive toll on the already-endanged koala population, with an estimated 25,000 killed in the fires. Many people have stepped up to help protect the survivors, who have been left burned and displaced from their homes.

These rescuers are often working with limited resources and makeshift shelters, so they need all the help they can get. The sales of these Pop! figures will help the cause.

It’s also a nice way to honor the brave firefighters who have risked their lives to put out the bushfires. Several have died.

Many Funko collections are filled with heroes like Batman and Luke Skywalker, but this is a way to have a real-life hero on your shelf.

The figure is exclusively available through Australian website Popcultcha, though they can ship internationally.

What a nice thing to do for these firefighters and the animals in Australia! Know a Funko Pop! collector who would be interested in this? Share this story!
