Hero dog shot twice saving young girl from armed home invaders

All of us think our dog is the best in the world, all of us share a bond with our animals that goes beyond mere words.

And yet there are few dogs who can match up to Starla, a two-year-old Yorkshire Terrier, at least when it comes to having proven their bravery and devotion to their owners.

According to reports, on Tuesday, March 3, just before 3:00 p.m. local time, two men showed up at a house in South Fulton, Georgia, planning a home invasion. One of them had a gun.

Dion Ewing told WGCL that her niece was home alone at the time, with only Starla for company.

Little did the girl know, however, that danger was approaching. Dion explained that her niece first received an alert on her phone that someone was approaching the house. She then watched as two hooded men attempted to force entry into the house.

“The other partner turned around and started kicking it from the back and he kicked it about two times and then the back came open,” Dion said. “The door came open.”

What the assailants weren’t expecting, however, was the small dog who was about to turn their day upside down. Starla went straight for them, sustaining two gun-shot wounds in the process. Her distraction was enough to give Dion’s niece time to escape through the garage, though.

Dion said: “But as she was running out, the one who had the gun asked the other one if they wanted them to shoot her.”

Fortunately, no more shots were fired. Even so, Starla didn’t let up her attack on the intruders.

“They were chasing her out and the dog was chasing behind them. Even after being shot,” she said.

The offenders made a hasty escape of their own after Starla’s brave intervention, speeding away from the scene.

Starla, meanwhile, is now making a recovery.

Dion said: “This little thing right here. It’s just like a little guard dog. And we are trying to keep her limited on the moving because of where she got injured at. They don’t want her to rip her lacerations. She got shot in her front leg and back leg.”

Details on the crime are light at the moment, with authorities seeking information. Anyone who might know anything is urged to contact South Fulton Police Department.

Thank God for the bravery of this little dog. Starla, you’re a hero!
