Dogs really are our best friends. They’re such loyal animals, always by our side when we need them most.
That was certainly the case for one dog, who worried as her owner was taken to the hospital… and stopped at nothing to be by his side.
Anderson Fechner Bahi, from Brazil, witnessed the touching moment in August. He told The Dodo that he was driving when he spotted an ambulance, and learned a man had fallen ill on the sidewalk and was being taken to the hospital.
But what really caught his attention was the man’s dog, who was outside with him at the time of the incident.
After her owner was put inside the ambulance, the worried dog insisted that she would be able to go, too, no matter what it took.
So, she hopped on the back of the ambulance, prepared to go wherever they were taking her friend.
Anderson was moved by what he saw: it was clear this dog was showing her loyalty no matter what.
“The love this dog has for her owner is something very special,” he told The Dodo. “A faithful love.”
When it was clear he wasn’t letting go, the ambulance staff relented and decided to let her inside the ambulance.
After arriving at the hospital, the dog waited outside. A local dog rescuer named Maria Lúcia Muniz showed up to keep the dog company, offering to take her in for the night while her owner recovered.
Luckily, it wasn’t necessary: “Thank God, the owner was only hospitalized for 45 minutes. His family arrived to take him and his dog home,” Maria told The Dodo.
“It was very emotional.”
How beautiful — this dog’s determination to be by her owner’s side at his hour of need shows just how endlessly loyal dogs can be.
