We’ve all heard of cats getting stuck in trees, but one Pennsylvania feline got stuck in a different high-up place: a telephone line.
But thankfully, a community came together to get the cat down safe and sound.
On October 11, neighbors in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania spotted a gray-and-white cat perched high up on top of a telephone pole, according to a release from the Columbia Borough Police Department.
The cat was in serious danger: not only was it high up and in danger of falling, it was also in danger of being electrocuted if exposed to power lines.
But thankfully, help was on the way. Employees from PPL Electric Utilities arrived on the scene and used a bucket truck to reach the cat. Officers from the Columbia Borough Police performed traffic control during the operation.
The crew also shut off electricity, leaving about 200 people without power for 10 minutes, but it was worth it to rescue the trapped cat.
The Columbia Borough Police praised the utilities crew as heroes, writing on Facebook that it was the “second time in almost a week that PPL was called out in town for incidents that could have become deadly for something or someone.”
The cat was taken to Columbia Animal Shelter, who will house the cat until its owner can be identified.
No one likes being without power, but it’s safe to say the brief blackout was worth it to save this sweet cat’s life! We hope the cat returns home soon — and stays away from heights for now on.
