It was one sunny day in May this year that a little dog named Blue appeared outside an animal shelter in Texas.
When staff caught sight of him, they immediately realized that something was wrong.
Blue lacked fur on certain parts of his body and was very skinny. They knew they had to act fast to help him.
Blue, a 4-month old German Shepherd mix, arrived at Shenandoah Shepherd Rescue in a sorry state. He was terrified of anyone who tried to get near him.

Nobody knows how he ended up outside the shelter, but staff acted quickly and got him straight to the vet where it was determined he was suffering with parvovirus, according to The Dodo . This virus was attacking his intestinal lining and if it had gone untreated could have killed him.
“There was a point in time when he was definitely very sick, and we weren’t 100 percent sure that he’d make it,” Kaitlin Vazquez, co founder of Shenandoah Shepherd Rescue, told The Dodo.
Blue had to stay in hospital for over a month before he was well enough to return to the animal shelter.
Thankfully a dog lover called Julia Downer. from Virginia, adopted him saying she couldn’t resist his cute little face.
What a transformation from the scared stray he was just a few months ago. Thank goodness for these animal heroes!
