Unusual method to stop dog attack sparks huge online debate

A viral video showing a man using an unconventional — and shocking — method to stop a dog attack in a northwest London park has sparked heated debates online.

The incident, which reportedly took place in Kingsbury Roe Green Park in April 2025, shows a German Shepherd viciously attacking a smaller dog while onlookers struggle to intervene.

The video, shared widely on X (formerly Twitter), was captioned: “Man saves a small dog from a violent German Shepherd by repeatedly sticking his finger up the dog’s butthole. Diabolical.”

In a desperate move, one man can be seen inserting his finger into the attacking dog’s rear, briefly causing the dog to release its grip on the smaller dog.

Viral reaction and debate

The video quickly went viral, sparking shock, confusion, and widespread debate over the bizarre tactic.

One user commented: ”I know it sounds ridiculous, but this is actually what you do. I know a dude that was savagely getting mauled by a pack of dogs, and he started shoving his fingers in all of their butts and that’s what saved him.”

The topic even made its way onto parenting forum Mumsnet, where one commenter claimed that sticking fingers “firmly up the anus of the dog being aggressive” is a surefire way to make it let go.

Unconventional method

While some online commenters suggest the technique can be effective in extreme situations, experts are urging caution.

They emphasize that there is no scientific backing for this method and warn it could be dangerous for both the person and the dog involved.

Animal behavior specialists advise safer, evidence-based methods for breaking up dog fights. Common recommendations include using water to startle the dogs or placing a barrier between them.

PetMD, a trusted source for pet care advice, recommends throwing water on fighting dogs to break up a confrontation. “The best way to break up a dog fight is to throw water on them; it startles the dogs and gives you a window of a few seconds in which to draw attention away from the fight and separate the dogs quickly. If necessary, use an inanimate object such as a stick or broom to pry and separate the dogs,” the site advises.

While the viral video has gained attention for its shock value, the message is clear: when it comes to handling aggressive dogs, there seems to be safer, more effective ways to intervene. Have you ever heard of this before? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.
