The truck, crammed with the frightened animals, were being taken to a dog meat festival in the Jilin province of northeastern China.
These animals had done nothing wrong and yet they were being taken to a place where unthinkable things were about to happen to them.
Locals decided to trail the truck and take photos of the tortured animals, according to Paw My Gosh.
They posted the images on social media in the hope that an organization would see it and be able to save the dogs from their shocking fate.
The locals urged animal rights groups to share the post and help stop this terrible act against hundreds of defenseless dogs.
But their attempts to stop them didn’t end there. A group of locals then followed the truck until the authorities arrived.
According to a Facebook post Guardians of Chinese Animal Protection said rescue groups and individuals from Beijing, Tianjin, QInhuangdao and Dalian were all involved.
The police were also alerted and when asked the men transporting the animals couldn’t provide the correct quarantine and vaccination certificates for the animals, so they were confiscated.
When authorities arrive to free the dogs, they also found puppies.
All the dogs were unloaded from the truck and taken to a center where they received any medical care they might need.
“The number of dogs with collars is clearly indicative of them being stolen pets!” the Facebook post said.
