Rescued pitbull-mix will have a home for Christmas after spending 500 days in animal shelter

There are few things that make me happier than stories of neglected or abused animals getting a second chance in life.

For example, I only need to think of a dog’s life being changed for the better to feel all warm inside. You can trust me when I say that after the following story, I’m feeling exactly that.

It concerns a dog in Niagara Falls, New York, who spent almost a year and a half with the Niagara SPCA. As per reports, the 5-year-old pitbull-mix, named Bonita, was overlooked by many people who deemed her unsuitable.

Needless to say, it looked as though the dog was destined to spent another Christmas in the shelter, without a loving family to call her own.

Then, at the last minute, she was rescued.

Kimberley LaRussa, event coordinator at the Niagara SPCA, told Fox 13: “Everybody loves her so much, and a lot of our employees are used to seeing her every day, so I know we are all going to miss her like crazy.

“She gets to be the lady of the house, which I’m sure is a dream come true for her.”

The video of Bonita leaving the shelter for the last time was uploaded to Facebook and, well, it’s breaking hearts the world over. In it, employees formed a human tunnel and showered Bonita in glitter as she made her way through.

Watch it in the video below:

Bonita’s rescuer, a man named Ray Kinz, has set up an Instagram page to keep people updated on the plucky pup’s journey through life.

We’re so happy this pretty pitbull-mix will get a second chance in life through a loving home.
