When pets are in danger, you can always count on your local firefighters to lend a helping hand.
That was the case recently, after one crew rescued a poor dog who was trapped in a drain pipe.
A golden retriever named Fable, from Falmouth, Maine, got trapped inside a drainage pipe. According to WGME, the owner says she took an “unwise shortcut” through the plastic culvert but became trapped when it was frozen shut on the other side.
Firefighters from the Falmouth Fire-EMS’ Engine 4, along with Falmouth Police officers, arrived on the scene to rescue the dog from the icy pipe.
The rescue effort was led by firefighter and paramedic Kelly Mayo, who told News Center Maine that Fable was “calm and cooperative the whole time.”
Thankfully, the crew was able to get the dog free. Fable was reportedly unfazed by the ordeal.
“Once we got her free she was your classic retriever puppy playing and running around,” Kelly Mayo said.
And Fable was apparently very thankful to the crew — a photo shared by the department shows the golden retriever “kissing” one of her rescuers:
It was a job well done, and a post by the Falmouth Fire-EMS praised all the responders for their inspiring teamwork.
“Kudos to the crew from Engine 4 along with Falmouth Police for working to free the young Golden Retriever from a drainage pipe earlier today,” the post reads. “Great teamwork by Falmouth Public Safety today.”
Thank you to these firefighters for saving this sweet dog from a drainage pipe! We’re so glad Fable is safe, and we know she’s very grateful for your help!
