Beagle finds an abandoned possum and adopts her as family

Most people don’t think of possums as cute and cuddly—we see them more as pests best known for playing dead or being roadkill. Despite the fact that they do a lot for our ecosystems, we don’t think of them as our friends.

But other animals don’t think that way. In an adorable story of an unlikely friendship, one dog found a lonely possum and the two have been inseparable ever since.

It was a dark time for Molly the beagle, who was depressed after losing her puppies at birth.

But she found comfort with a surprising new friend: an abandoned baby possum.

The possum, called Poss, always has Molly’s back—literally. She hopped for a ride on the dog’s back and Molly was happy for the company.

“They’ve been inseparable ever since,” Molly’s owners, Elle and Sara Moyle, told 9News.

The two animals found each other when they needed a family most.

“They’re an unlikely pair, and I think that possum thought Mol was her mother and vice versa,” Sara said.

“It’s certainly uplifted her mood, they both needed each other I think so it’s been a fantastic relationship.”

One drawback to this friendship: different sleep schedules. Poss is nocturnal so he sleeps during the day, but even then Molly keeps an eye on her.

“Molly just sits under the tree where she’s sleeping and just waits for her,” Elle said.

We’re so glad these two found each other and formed such an adorable friendship! Share this heartwarming story!
