Adopted 4-year-old afraid of dogs forms special bond with his new pet Chihuahua

There’s nothing more special than the bond between a boy and his dog, but one pair of friends is extra precious.

A little boy named Marcelo Brookhouser was adopted in 2018. Arriving in his new home, there was one thing that scared Marcelo: the family rescue dog, a chihuahua named Mini.

“When he got here, he was pretty terrified of the dogs, he screamed pretty loud the first day, and I was like oh man they warned us that that could happen,” his mother Holly told KFSM.

On the other hand, the little dog loved kids… and Mini made it her mission to win over her new family member.

Mini gave Marcelo a “kiss” with a lick, and Marcelo started to realize the dog was friendly.

“He started getting a little more curious about her, but that first kiss that she gave him, it just won him over,” Holly told The Dodo.

“He realized that dogs are okay and they’re not scary.”

It was the beginning of a beautiful friendship between these two.

The two have been inseparable ever since: Mini is always watching out for Marcelo, whether it’s in the bathtub, playing outside or going on car rides.

Not only did Mini help him overcome a fear of dogs, but helped him get used to his new surroundings.

“It’s almost like she knew what he needed to acclimate to our house,” Holly said.

“When he was sick, she wanted to make sure he was okay, so she stayed with him all day and laid on the couch with him.”

And Marcelo is always looking out for Mini, too. The two play together all the time, and he loves to sneak her some cereal.

For mom, it’s been heartwarming to see these two bond so closely. It’s clear the big impact Mini has had on Marcelo’s life already.

“I have enjoyed watching him overcome his fear of dogs,” Holly told The Dodo. “I love how he has had her as a patient teacher.”

What a precious friendship. It’s a reminder of the amazing impact a good dog can have in a boy’s life.
