The 8-week old pup is bought online – becomes first dog to be abandoned in 2018

Unfortunately it’s a regular occurrence: a cute puppy is bought as a Christmas present only to be dumped soon after because the owner can’t cope.

Any animal lover knows that dogs are a lifelong commitment. But whoever bought this 8-week-old adorable puppy Ronnie didn’t have this in mind when the dog was given as a Christmas gift, only to be dumped just days later.

The sweet pup was left at the famous London animal rescue center Battersea Dogs and Cat Rescue on Jan. 2. Staff said the owner had become homeless and could no longer look after him.

This adorable bundle is currently at the shelter getting all the necessary checks and a microchip before he is found a new loving home.

“He’s so affectionate, even with new people, and loves a cuddle and a fuss. He also loves playing with toys and running around the kitchen. He’s such a sweet boy,” Battersea staff member Alice Holt told Daily Mail UK.

Manager at the home Steve Craddock fears Ronnie was also taken from his mother too early and “sold by a breeder with absolutely no regard for his welfare.” He now has the sad honor of being the first unwanted pet  of 2018 to arrive through the doors of the animal shelter.

“It doesn’t shock any of us that the first dog through our doors in 2018 was bought online,” adds Craddock. “Ronnie is just one of many thousands of dogs who will be bought off an unregulated website in the coming months and end up in a home where the owner is unprepared and unable to take proper care of them.”

His image has been shared by the shelter which has received an overwhelming response from people wanting to give him a safe and loving home. Staff now have the tough job of finding the perfect home for him. It’s no surprise so many people want to look after him with a face that cute!

Staff at the center hope sweet Ronnie’s story will urge people to adopt animals from reputable shelters, instead of online from inhumane breeders.

Such a heartbreaking story but I’m glad the owner took him to a proper shelter where he has a chance of finding a proper forever home.

Owning a dog is a huge responsibility and one which shouldn’t be taken lightly. Please share this article with your friends and family if you agree!
