Woman finds gorgeous mantis in her garden and can’t believe it’s real

When we think of beautiful creatures, bugs are not the first thing that come to mind.

But while these little critters are often seen as pests and nuisances, they can also surprise us with their beauty.

That’s what one woman discovered when she found a remarkable insect in her garden that seemed too beautiful to be real.

A woman named Margaret Neville was in her garden in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa when she spotted an insect on her lavender bush. It was unlike anything she had ever seen before:

The mantis was breathtaking with its white and green coloring and swirl pattern.

“I was amazed at first sight,” Margaret told The Dodo.

“When I saw her, I thought she was an exquisite work of art,” her friend Kerri Martinaglia.

And the insect wasn’t just beautiful—her appearance was also a brilliant evolutionary trait, allowing her to perfectly blend in with the flowers:

The insect is fittingly known as a Flower Mantis, but Margret had a better name for the one in her garden: Miss Frill Pants.

Miss Frilly Pants is still hanging around the garden, and has even found a male companion.

“She has spent the entire month of September living on my lavender,” Margaret told The Dodo. “She is still there now.”

“What a blessing.”
