World’s most expensive sheepdog sells for over $20,000 – now on her way to Oklahoma ranch

A ranch owner in Oklahoma has paid $24,493 ( £18,900 ) for a border collie from a farm in England making her the world’s most expensive sheep dog.

Emma Gray sold the two-and-a-half year-old dog called Megan after training her on her farm in North Yorkshire.

The 33-year-old shepherdess who farms and trains sheepdogs sold a similar dog last year for over $19,000 (almost £15,000), according to BBC News.

Megan, who was sold at an auction, will soon be on her way to Oklahoma where she’ll be rounding up Wagyu cattle.

“It’s my life to breed sheepdogs but it’s not easy to see them go. After the auction she slept on the pillow by me; I didn’t want her out of my sight, she’s a very valuable girl,” Emma told the Daily Mail.

Similar dogs usually sell for about $2,500 (£2,000), according to the news site.

Megan said she had to double check the price Megan had sold for because she didn’t believe it at first.

“I had to ring the auction and just make sure it wasn’t a hoax and that I wasn’t dreaming,” she said, according to BBC News.

“Megan is the full package. She’s a really talented little dog and has all the best bloodlines in her,” she added. “It’s really unusual for a dog like her to come on the market.”

“Had circumstances been different I would never have sold her. But I already have two really, really good sheepdogs so I had to make the decision to sell her.”
