Poor dog was found abandoned and tied to gate — now police are after the culprit

It’s always unbelievable how cruelly some people can abandon their pets, leaving them scared and alone with no certain future.

One heartbreaking image shows the impact this abandonment can have on a poor dog — and police are hoping to find the person who did it.

Workers at RSPCA Woodside Animal Centre, in Leicester, England, were shocked last week when they found a dog tied up to a fence outside, left there overnight all by herself.

It was clear that someone had abandoned her—and the dog looked simply devastated.

“She was stood with her head pushed through the bars of the gate, her ears back with these big, brown puppy dog eyes,” a spokesperson said in a press release.

“She just looked so sad and frightened, it was heartbreaking.”

Not only was the dog abandoned, she was found in poor condition: she was underweight and her ribs were visible, and there were small cuts on her nose.

The RSPCA took her in, and named her Misty. She was well taken care of, although she continued to feel sad and confused about the situation.

Misty was microchipped, however when they reached out to the contact they found she had been rehomed years before, making it hard to find the person who abandoned them.

But they are determined to get to the bottom of this situation and bring the culprit to justice. “This matter is being dealt with directly by RSPCA HQ as this is now a criminal case,” the RSPCA wrote on Facebook.

“We’re now hoping the public may be able to help with our investigation so anyone who recognizes Misty should contact our appeal line on 0300 123 8018,” said RSPCA inspector Karl Marston, the case’s investigator.

Misty is not available for adoption yet, but hopefully will be in the future. The RSPCA says they will provide updates about her status.

This poor heartbroken dog! We hope investigators will find who did this to her and bring them to justice… and more importantly we hope that Misty recovers and finds a forever home soon.
