Dogs are social animals just like people are. They like to make friends and form close relationships with other animals.
Like one golden retriever, whose blossoming relationship with another dog in his building had a very romantic and familiar style that has drawn comparisons to Romeo and Juliet, thanks to a series of viral TikTok videos.
Everyone knows the famous balcony scene in Shakespeare’s classic romantic tragedy: Romeo woos his secret star-crossed from down below her balcony.
Recently, a the owner of a dog named Aubrey found his golden retriever reenacting that scene with another dog: the pet was gazing out the window, and looking down he noticed Aubrey had a boyfriend downstairs:
The dogs had been staring at each other from worlds apart, just like the famous pair of Shakespearean lovers.
“I think my golden retriever is going through a Romeo and Juliet romance,” the owner wrote.
The adorable TikTok went viral with over 11 million views — so naturally, the owner teased a sequel.
“Should they meet?” he captioned the video.
Thankfully, she didn’t leave us hanging. In a follow-up “Part 2” video, the two dogs finally met up.
Unlike the Montagues and the Capulets, the dogs’ owners had no objection to their star-crossed romance. Aubrey’s owner happily took the dog downstairs in the elevator, and the other dog’s owner opened the gate for a playdate:
The adorable meet-up was set to Taylor Swift’s “Love Story,” naturally.
The follow-up got another million views, and the owner described his dog as officially being “TikTok famous.” Definitely a less-tragic ending than Romeo had.
In addition to his whirlwind romance, it seems like this dog is very good at making friends around his apartment.
In another pair of viral TikTok videos, the dog bonds with the window cleaner at the apartment building, who brings her a toy and plays with her:
It’s always adorable to see dogs making friends — we hope these beautiful “Romeo and Juliet” goldens have lots of great playdates together in the future!
