Thankfully, there are many police officers in our country who work hard to put these monsters that neglect animals.
The police officers in Jimmy’s town vow to protect and serve all of its citizens, including animals.
So when a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was on patrol along Old Highway M, he knew he had to do something when he spotted something peculiar.
After getting out of his car to look closer, he found a starving, shivering and malnourished dog who was bound.
The dog was found in 30-degree weather and the deputy wasn’t sure, but the poor puppy might have been suffering from a concussion.
It was truly a terribly heartbreaking sight.
The officer immediately picked up the dog and named him Jimmy. The cold puppy was then rushed to Ivan Animal Hospital.
Police think that Jimmy had been left there about 12 hours earlier.
How could someone do something so horrible to such a cute and defenseless animal?
The dog was left overnight when temperatures were believed to have dipped into the teens.
Thankfully with some love and care, the senior dog was able to recover.
“His prognosis looks very good,” Dr. Laura Ivan, a veterinarian at Ivan Animal Hospital, told FOX 2 Now.
“He has a little bit of a residual head tilt which basically implies that he is off balance a little bit, which when they tilt their head they’re actually seeing straight ahead of us. But he’s been happy, he wags his tail a lot, he’s active, he’s eating.”
But the police in Jefferson County weren’t about to let Jimmy’s abuser get away.
The clever deputy decided to hold onto the duct tape – that decision helped them to track down a suspect.
“The deputy having that forethought to save that duct tape and took it back to the evidence lab and the techs worked on it for hours and they were able to slowly peel that duct tape apart and they found a fingerprint on the sticky side of it,” Grant Bissell, a spokesman for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, said.
Thanks to that, Paul Garcia, 39, was soon arrested. He was later charged with animal abuse and armed criminal action. He was jailed on a $50,000 cash-only bond.
Police still don’t know why Garcia allegedly did this to Jimmy and said they’re still looking for the dog’s owner.
