Christina Ricci, the 44-year-old actress best known for her role as Wednesday Addams in the Addams Family movies and her Emmy-nominated work in Yellowjackets, announced on February 18 that her dog Karen Carpenter had died.

In a series of Instagram stories, Ricci paid a loving tribute to her beloved dog, who was part of her life for 15 years.

“My beautiful little best friend Karen Carpenter died on Friday. She was a lady and the best little soul I’ve ever known,” Ricci wrote. “My best friend for 15 years. So many of you knew her and loved her.”

“Apparently all dogs go to heaven,” she continued. “She hated other dogs so I hope she’s in the humans only area. She loved people… She was so kind.”

Ricci also shared a photo of Karen Carpenter with her son Freddie, now 9, and wrote that the dog was “Fred’s first best friend.”

In a 2022 interview with People, Ricci opened up about her longtime pet, saying she was doing everything to keep Karen happy and comfortable as she got older.

“Karen has been with me since I was about 29 years old. And I always say she’s my first baby,” Ricci told the outlet. “And as she got older, I really wanted to make sure that not only did she live as long as possible, but that she lives comfortably and happily, and without the ailments that older dogs suffer from.”

Ricci also said that she grew up with three dogs and a cat, and was an “equal-opportunity animal lover.” “I really love cats as much as I love dogs,” she told People.

The actress is also a mom to two other dogs named Logan and Patrick.
