Halle Berry helps promote shelter cat named ‘Halle Berry’

There are so many animals in shelters waiting to find a home, and shelter volunteers do everything they can to help get the word out about these pets in need.

And it turns out, one foolproof plan is to name them after a celebrity!

We saw this recently when a cat named “Dennis Quaid” went viral and actually got adopted by his real-life namesake. “I’m out to save all the Dennis Quaids of the world,” Dennis Quaid joked.

Now, another big-name celebrity is out to help out a cat who shares their name.

The Michigan Humane Society is caring for an 8-year-old domestic shorthair mix, and gave the cat a very interesting but fitting name: Halle Berry, in honor of the Oscar-winning actress.

“Halle Berry is a sweet quiet girl looking for a calm home,” the shelter wrote of the cat.

It’s fitting that the cat was named after Halle Berry because the actress was the title star of the 2004 film Catwoman. While that movie was critically panned, Halle the cat fiercely defends his namesake’s filmography.

“She will not tolerate any @halleberry as Catwoman slander,” Michigan Humane wrote on Twitter.

And amazingly, this got the attention of the actual Halle Berry!

Unlike Dennis Quaid, Halle Berry did not adopt the cat herself, but like him she did step up to help the other Halle Berrys of the world.

The actress retweeted the Humane Society’s post about the cat, helping to bring the story to her 328,000 followers.

Like many older rescue cats, Halle Berry will need a little time to adjust to her new home.

“We don’t know if she has a history with children or dogs, so a slow introduction would be best,” Michigan Humane wrote. “She has lived with cats in the past, and has gotten along with other cats here at the shelter as well.”

“New situations can be scary for her, but once she settles in she loves attention!”

If you’re in the Michigan area and are interested in adopting Halle Berry, you can reach out to the Humane Society!

Thank you to Halle Berry for promoting her namesake cat! Hopefully one of her fans is interested in adopting!
