Who is putting tiny cowboy hats on pigeons in Las Vegas?

An animal rescue group in Las Vegas has an interesting task at hand, remove tiny cowboy hats from pigeons that are roaming the streets of the city.

“I saw something red on the pigeon’s head and looked down to these awesome things,” Robert Lee told Storyful. “The rodeo is in town so that’s the only explanation I have.”

Lee recorded the unusual sight and uploaded a short clip on Facebook, where many people found the cowboy hat-wearing pigeons humorous. But not everyone is laughing.

“At first, I was like, oh my god that’s cute!” Mariah Hillman told KVVU. “Then, I was like, wait a minute – how did they get those hats on there?”

Hillman is concerned that someone was able to glue the cowboy hats on top of the pigeons’ heads and that it might have a negative effect on the birds. Now she is on a mission to rescue them.

“We drove up and down here yesterday for a good two hours just handing out business cards to any location where I saw pigeons and people,” she said.

She’s urging anyone who has seen a pigeon wearing a tiny red cowboy hat to call her animal rescue, keep them within sight, and then once she arrives she’ll trap them and remove the accessory.

If you’re in Las Vegas and come across one of the pigeons sporting a cowboy hat, Hillman asks that you contact Lofty Hopes, so the birds can be freed from the hats.

However these pigeons got the hats on their heads, I hope they’re not hurting them.
