Woman tries to ignore squirrel following her in park, until the critter ‘tugged her pant leg’

There are some people that can be near wild animals and help them where others would be frightened.

In the case of squirrels, they always seem to run up the nearest tree should any human get close which is why Tia Powell’s story is so remarkable.

While out walking one day in a park in Pulaski, Virginia, a squirrel started following her. Ignoring it the squirrel then tugged on her pant leg to get her attention.

An amazing squirrel rescue was then caught on camera and posted on social media. So far more than 2,000 people have reacted to it.

Tia Powell was walking on a trail near Kiwanis Park when the squirrel initially approached her.

Pulaski Police Department was contacted by the woman who requested assistance for the squirrel, but they couldn’t quite believe what they were hearing.

“Something happened in town today that you would’ve had to see to believe!” Pulaski Police Department wrote in a Facebook post.

Tia was out walking  on a trail near Kiwanis Park when the squirrel approached her, Fox 35 reports.

When she realized that the squirrel meant her no harm she turned around and started following it. The squirrel then led her to a baby with an injured leg.

“At one point, Powell wasn’t sure she could help and she began walking and the squirrel followed her again and actually tugged her pant leg!” Police added on the Facebook post.

Tia saw that a cat was trying to attack the momma squirrel and her baby so protected them until officers and her friend arrived. Between them they were able to get both creatures to safety and back in the tree.

“A huge shout out to Tia (aka: The Squirrel Whisperer) and Jasmine (her friend)! Had Tia not been willing to trust her instincts that something was wrong, this might have had a very different ending!” Police wrote.

Even in the animal kingdom a mom will risk everything for her baby. So glad Tia was there to help!
