Disturbing images have emerged of a group of men beating a seal unconscious so kids could take pictures with it.
It happened in the Caspian Sea in Kuryk, in Kazakhstan, where a large group of beach goers gathered around the seal in the ocean.
Some are carrying sticks and rocks which they use to beat the seal in the horrific attack.
According to a report in the Daily Mail the men beat the seal until it lay motionless and then dragged it out of the water.
“Then they pulled it out of the water so that children could take pictures and have fun,” the report said quoting an unnamed witness.
“After that, they threw the motionless body back into the sea. I don’t know if it survived.”
‘Incredibly gentle’
Seals are considered friendly marine mammals that have the same intelligence levels as dogs.
“Whilst they are strong and powerful with huge teeth these are highly unlikely to be used aggressively towards you – playfully yes, but even then they can be incredibly gentle.” according to the Outdoor Swimming Society.
The Caspian seal, found only in this ocean, is one of the smallest members of the seal family and is listed as endangered with a consistent declining population.
This brutal attack on such a defenseless animal comes just a week after a similar attack in the city of Aktau, around 40 miles from where this latest incident took place.
I have no idea what possesses people to behave this way toward an animal, it’s barbaric.
