We’ve heard many stories of humans saving animals from different dangerous situations. But sometimes the roles are reversed.
One day an Argentinian woman, Alejandra Griffa, heard muffled cries coming from somewhere in the vicinity of a parking lot just outside her home.
But when she caught sight of a street dog and 6 puppies puppies, she noticed something else by the dog’s side.
Something was sticking up in the midst of the litter that left her stunned.
It was a small human hand.
Alejandra immediately picked up the little baby, whom she estimated to be about 1 month old, and rushed to the nearest hospital. The baby’s mom had left her to die out in the winter cold — but the street dog was determined to stop that from happening.
Her miraculous survival is due in large part to street dog that Alejandra soon named Way.
The homeless dog took on the tiny baby like a real mamma and held her tight against the winter cold, to keep the little one as warm as possible.
The dog had apparently carried the baby 50 meters from where his mother had abandoned him to where the puppies were huddled, police said.
“She took it like a puppy and rescued it. The doctors told us if she hadn’t done this, he would have died,” said Daniel Salcedo, chief of police of the Province of Buenos Aires.
Well under the circumstances
Despite some superficial scratches, the baby fared well, thanks to Way’s quick actions.
The maternal instincts of animals are strong. In addition, dogs are some of the most intelligent and loving animals we have by our side, and they can easily read if we are sad, angry, happy or just need some extra closeness. They can also show great empathy and consideration — and not just for their own species.
Thank goodness Way was there like the good dog mamma she was and saved the tiny baby from certain death.
After carrying out an investigation, local authorities managed to find the baby’s mom, a 14 year old girl. She was taken to the hospital by a relative where she could be taken care of and receive psychological help, according to CNN.
What happened to Way and her puppies remains unclear, but I really hope someone took care of her and her puppies just as she cared for and saved this tiny baby.
