Man smashes Mercedes window in front of cop after seeing puppy trapped inside car on hot day

Police in the UK have confirmed a man who smashed a car window to save a puppy locked inside on a hot day will not face punishment.

As per reports, a 14-week-old terrier mix was left in the car while its owner went shopping at around 10 a.m. on Monday morning. Police were soon called to reports of a dog in distress, but before they got to the scene a hero – who has remained anonymous – smashed a window to free the pup.

Authorities in Swindon, England have now reportedly confirmed that the man will not face punishment, as his actions were lawful.

Pictures snapped at the scene showed responding officers taking care of the dog, before handing it back to the owner upon his return. A representative from the RSCPA (Royal Society for the Protection of Animals), meanwhile, issued the owner a formal warning.

Inspector Steph Daly, of Wiltshire Police, said: “People just don’t think it’s going to happen to them.

“They think ‘oh I’ll be alright, I’m only going to be five minutes’, but with what’s going on in the world at the moment, we have to queue for the supermarkets. You know your trip is going to take longer.

“People are animal lovers, and if they see something they’re not happy with, they’ll take action.”

Indeed, over the past decade we’ve become a lot more vigilant when it comes to dogs being left in hot cars. Just because we can tolerate the heat doesn’t mean out furry friends can … especially since they can’t sweat as we do.
