Man dies in house fire after going back in to save his dog

People love their dogs and will do anything they can to protect them from danger, even that means putting themselves in harm’s way. And while we can commend them for their selfless bravery, sometimes things take a tragic turn.

That was the case recently, after one heroic man died saving his dog from a fire.

According to the Oklahoman, firefighters from the Oklahoma City Fire Department responded to a call early Sunday morning about a house fire.

Residents had been alerted to the fire by an alarm, but one man had to be rescued from the kitchen of the burning home — after reportedly going back inside to save his beloved pet.

“The husband went back inside the burning structure to try and find their dog,” fire officials said, according to the Oklahoman.

The unidentified man was rushed to the hospital, where sadly he was pronounced dead.

However, he did not die in vain: the dog reportedly survived the fire, and no one else sustained any injuries.

As we’ve seen many times, people love their pets like family members and won’t hesitate to throw themselves in harm’s way to protect them. Sadly, it can sometimes be fatal.

Eerily, this is remarkably similar to two other stories that happened earlier this month. A 59-year-old man from Flint, Michigan died in a fire on New Years day after going back in to try to save his dog. A day later, in Ouachita Parish, Louisiana, a 69-year-old man died the same way. Sadly in those cases, the dog also died.

It’s clear people love their dogs so much they’ll put their lives on the line, and the love is reciprocated: there have been stories of dogs perishing in fires while saving their owners.

Rest in peace to the brave man who died saving his dog’s life. You’ll be remembered as a hero by animal lovers everywhere.
