Lost dog wanders into police station to ‘turn herself in,’ reunites with owners

It’s always heartbreaking when a pet goes missing, but it’s important not to lose hope. Sometimes pets return to us in ways we never expect.

And because animals are often smarter than we think, sometimes they find their own way home. That was the case recently, after one missing dog walked right in to a police station, knowing that they will help her get home.

Leicestershire Police, in England, recently shared a bit of CCTV security footage, showing the moment a Border Collie named Rosie casually strolls into their Loughborough Police Station:

Thankfully this dog was no criminal, and in fact was quite well behaved: she reportedly took a seat in the corner of the room, and quickly won over the officers.

“Our staff fetched some water for Rosie, and made fast friends with plenty of fuss,” the department wrote on Facebook.

It was clear that this dog had wandered away from home. The officers checked her collar, and were thankfully able to identify her owners.

The owner was reportedly “delighted she had been found safe and well,” and said Rosie had escaped during a walk nearby with another dog.

Losing a pet can be scary, even if it’s only for a short while, but we’re glad Rosie was quickly united with her owners — it’s clear that this dog knew just where to go to get help.

“What a lovely, clever dog,” the police wrote.

What a smart dog! She clearly knew where to go! So glad Rosie is home!
