Not all animals have homes, but they all deserve a little love.
The city of Istanbul, Turkey is known for its large population of street animals—an estimated 130,000 dogs and 125,000 cats.
The city is also known for taking care of these animals, even as they roam free on the streets, providing food and giving them shelter when they need it.
And it’s a tradition that’s continued, even with everything going on in the world: citizens under COVID-19 lockdown are still making sure these animals are cared for.
To curb the coronavirus people around the world are directed to stay indoors and keep their distance, and with everyone inside there’s concern about who will feed the street animals.
Turkey’s Interior Ministry issued a letter on the issue, recommending people leave out food for the cats and dogs while maintaining social distancing.
“Food and water will be left at the living environments of street animals such as parks and gardens and particularly animal shelters,” the ministry said, according to the Daily Sabah.
It’s inspiring to know that even in a crisis like this, people are still thinking about animals, and these cats and dogs will still be taken care of.
