Furless dog removed from owner

It’s hard to imagine what goes through the mind of a pet owner who doesn’t look after the health of their animal. There is a lot of responsibility that comes with caring for an animal and yet so many don’t realize this.

Take, for example, the dog Honey who didn’t even make it to adulthood before getting a skin condition that was untreated and left her in a shocking state.

Thankfully her owners were caring enough to take her to the vet but only when the condition had caused most of her fur to fall out.

The veterinary staff took one look at this mangy mongrel and knew what they had to do.

Staff persuaded her owners to hand her over as they clearly weren’t taking good enough care of her.

Honey, who was taken to the veterinary clinic in West Sussex, England, was hairless and mange-infested, and it’s unlikely she would have made if she hadn’t been removed, according to RonProject.com

‘She needed constant care’

The puppy was so miserable due to her state of health and her constant itchy, sore skin, but one person fell in love with her and saw past her crankiness.

Veterinarian technician Jessie DeFreitas decided she wanted to take her in.

“She needed constant care. I asked to foster the dog,” Jessie, 21, told Ron Project.

“My mum asked if I was sure because we already have four cats and another rescue dog at home. But everyone knows I love animals. At the vets I’m constantly asking about people’s pets.”

With help from her mom Honey, who was renamed Terra for her anything but sweet personality, was nursed back to health, but it wasn’t easy.

‘Kindest and sweetest thing’

“When we first brought her home, she was a playful biter. Her original name, Honey, didn’t fit her at all,” Jessie told SWNS. “To me, Honey is sweet and she is not. My mum named her Terra with an ‘a’ because it fit her better – she can be a little terror.”

But after months of dedicated care Terra became a Honey again and her fur grew back. Now she looks like a completely different dog.

“She’s recovered really well. You can see it in her eyes – she’s become happier and happier,” she said. “She’s amazing. She’s just the kindest and sweetest thing.”

Such dedicated animal lovers deserve all the praise. The difference in sweet Honey is unbelievable and it’s all thanks to Jessie and her mom.
