There’s nothing better than the moment you take a pet dog home for good, especially when it’s a rescue. It’s an unforgettable moment for both you and your new pet.
But for one family, it was truly something out of a movie — because they got some help from one of Hollywood’s biggest stars.
The iconic wrestler-turned-action-star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been busy promoting his new animated movie, DC League of Super–Pets, in which he voices Krypto, Superman’s dog, who is on a mission to save his owner and other superheroes with the help of some shelter pets.
While often a tough guy on screen, it turns out Johnson has a soft spot for real-life shelter pets as well — and used one recent screening of the film to pair a rescue dog with a perfect family.
In a video shared on the actor’s Instagram, Johnson says that he loves surprising audiences during screenings of his movies.
So when Super-Pets opened last weekend, the actor had a lot of surprises for one audience at a Los Angeles Cinemark.
Johnson arrived at the theater in disguise — dressed in a mascot costume of his character Krypto.
The movie audience was excited enough when “Krypto” took the stage — but they were completely shocked when Dwayne Johnson removed the costume head and revealed it was actually him!
Some of the audience members were so overjoyed they teared up.
Seeing a major celebrity show up at your movie screening is always a fun surprise — but the surprises were just beginning.
After taking the stage, Johnson invited the Hernandez family on stage. He tells the family’s kids that he heard that it’s always been their dream to have a pet dog, which they confirm.
“Well, guess what: I’m here!” Johnson says, still mostly in his dog costume. “You can take me home!”
Of course, that’s not the real surprise. The actor tells them he has something special for them — and comes back to the stage holding a puppy!
The kids were stunned, but the parents were in on it: according to People, mom Tiffany Hernandez and her husband had been searching for an adoptable dog through Best Friends Animal Society.
That led them to finding rescue puppy Quail — and Johnson, who says he partnered with the organization alongside his co-star Kevin Hart, decided to make it into an unforgettable Hollywood surprise.
“They do really tremendous work saving the lives of shelter pets, dogs and cats all across America,” Johnson says of Best Friends Animal Society.
Seeing the kids holding their new rescue puppy Quail for the first time, it was truly one unforgettable screening for The Rock.
“Stuff like this will always be the best part of my job,” Johnson wrote on Instagram. “An incredible night all in the spirit of celebrating PETS.”
The heartwarming video has gone viral with over 10 million views.
