Two boys and police officers team up to rescue scared kitten trapped in storm drain

It’s always heartwarming to see people who go out of their way to help animals in need, especially caring young people.

When two boys heard a trapped kitten calling for help, they knew they had to do something, and with the help of police officers saved the cat’s life.

According to a June 8 Facebook post, officers from the Savannah Police Department, in Georgia, were called on to help after a kitten was heard in a storm drain.

Arriving on the scene, they found two good samaritans trying to save the kitty: two boys named Tavarius and Omari. Together, they began formulating a plan to get the trapped cat to safety.

However, it also proved to be a challenge. According to the post, the rescue team tried to use a rake, but it didn’t work, and when they opened the manhole cover, the scared kitten ran off.

Eventually, they were able to get the cat out of the storm drain — but that wasn’t the end. The department wrote that the cat, “obviously traumatized by the incident,” quickly ran off and “ended up in another tight spot,” hiding under their patrol car.

But the police officers and the two boys didn’t give up. They continued to follow the sounds of the kitten’s meowing, locating him under the vehicle and finally getting him to safety — “holding him extra tight to keep him safe this time,” the department wrote.

Thanks to their heartwarming teamwork, the two boys and the police officers were able to get the scared kitten to safety.

But then the story took an even sweeter turn: Tavarius “fell in love with the little kitty” and decided to adopt him!

The officers wrote that the young man gave his new pet “a stern talking to about the dangers of storm drains, cars and the old saying ‘curiosity killed the cat.'” At the end of his long and scary ordeal, this stray kitten has found a home with someone who has proven to be a true lover of animals.

According to the Facebook post, the cat has fittingly been named “Stormy,” and Tavarius and Omari were reportedly heading out to get food and supplies for the cat.

What a great story — it’s so sweet to see these caring boys teaming up with the police officers to get this cat to safety, and we’re so glad “Stormy” now has a loving new home!
