Man gets out of his wheelchair to help kitten trapped in drain

The number of videos that we’re exposed to online can all seem to merge into one after a while. But this latest video that’s emerged on Facebook took my breath away.

It shows a disabled man getting out of his wheelchair and slide down a grass verge to save the life of a kitten stuck in a drain.

More than 300,000 people have watched this video, but I think more need to see the danger this man puts himself in to rescue this kitten.

The animal hero in the video has been identified as 30-year-old Paralympic athlete Abu Fathiyyaturahma Menk Abdun Mujtahid.

The athlete was with his friend near the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex in Malaysia when they spotted the struggling animal.

Kitten was unharmed

Without hesitation Abu got out of his wheelchair and risked his life to help the stranded feline.

He made his way toward the steep banks of the drain and while balancing on the edge reaches down to grab the kitten and put him in a safe place.

Luckily, the little one wasn’t hurt and followed his rescuer back to his wheelchair where he put him on his lap.

The video, originally posted on Facebook, was quickly shared by hundreds of thousands of people and has attracted thousands of reactions and comments praising the brave man.

“We saw the kitten stuck there and knew we could not leave it. I decided to get the kitten myself because it would be more dangerous for my friend who uses prosthetic legs,” Abu said, according to Uplifting Today.

Stays away from danger

“The banks of the drain were steep in parts and not level, so it was difficult to negotiate. But I’m glad we could help the cat. It was already a little wet from falling in the dirty drainage water when we saw it.

“I hope the kitten has learned his lesson and stays away from danger,” he added.
